Setting goals is a vital part of achieving what you want to achieve as a football player. You MUST have a clear goal that motivates you to work hard every day and strive to achieve it. But, you don’t just want to have an end goal, you want to have a goal for the next 5 years, 3 years, 2 years, 18 months, 1 year, 6 months, 1 month, 1 week, 1 day, 1 hour, 1 minute, and every second of every day. You need to have goals for every day of you career to get to the highest level you can. Now, I will show you exactly how to structure your goals so you can actually achieve them.
First you want to start with your ultimate goal and then work backwards from their so you can see the steps you need to take every day to achieve your ultimate goal.

Now to give you an idea of what some of your goals could be, here are my goals. I also want to put this on the record so when I achieve them, I can point back to this!
Ultimate Goal: Play in the Premier League
10 Year Goal: Top CM in the MLS / Making MLS Allstar Team / First U.S. Cap
8 Year Goal: Top CM in the USL Championship / Transfer to MLS team
5 Year Goal: Top CM in the USL 2, USL 1, or NPSL (3rd or 4th tier) / Transfer to USL Championship club
3 Year Goal: First season in USL 2, USL 1, or NPSL (3rd or 4th tier) done / Start 5+ games / Be impactful in the games I play in
2 Year Goal: Selected for USL 2, USL 1, or NPSL (3rd or 4th tier) team through trials
1 Year Goal: Have a really good highlight video + CV (and in the process of adding to this) / Keep training and improving / Make speed and strength improvements
6 Month Goal: Keep connecting and building opportunities / Keep building up highlight video + CV / Keep developing / Make speed and strength improvements / Qualify for the ENPL Playoffs / Try to play in a tournament with a prospective club
3 Month Goal: Keep connecting and building opportunities / Keep building up highlight video + CV / Keep developing / Make speed and strength improvements / Play well and consistently in the USL and ECNL seasons
1 Month Goal: Finish out 2005 ECNL season as a key player / Transition into 04 season and play consistently / Keep building up connections / Keep developing / Keep getting good highlights
